Industrial Process Heating Unit: Minimized Downtime – Maintained Production using Sustainable Anticorrosion Treatment

PROBLEM

Early on in using the curing systems for a new product, the by-product of the off-gas of the new product recipe created corrosion within the metal and concrete structure of the curing chamber. Within 6 months, the metal was completely damaged.

In this application, high process temperatures and saturated water vapor were challenges to overcome. Any solvent-based coatings to cover the rust would damage their product during the curing cycle.

Their research of common industrial corrosion solutions made evident they may have to purchase new curing ovens, which would have been extremely costly, and shut down for 4-6 months, stopping production in a highly competitive market.

SOLUTION

Elementale suggested implementing our MaxOn Sustainable Anti-Corrosion Treatment on their existing Curing Chambers due to its sustainable properties and tolerance to heat, as well as its properties to penetrate into the medium for neutralizing both metal and concrete for long-term protection. This process needed to be applied to an area of 20,000 ft3.

This unique 3-product solution (CRS, C2M, H2Poxy) accommodated the different materials inside of the curing chamber, penetrating these materials to avoid further issues while keeping the media’s integrity in-tact.

As the project unfolded, it was clear that the customer could not stop production – so we were asked to create an application schedule allowing them to keep their production moving at 80%. Due to the treatment’s fast-curing time – we were able to do different zones quickly to get them 100% operational

within 2 weeks!

SUCCESSFUL DELIVERY

The 20,000 ft3 area was completed with the 3-product solution (primer and topcoat) within 2 weeks, was a fraction of the cost of a new curing system and allowed production to keep moving. The curing chambers have been in production since and are as rust-free now (over 24 months later) as they were after the initial application. Since then, the customer has contacted Elementale to provide the same solution to a second 20,000 sq ft drying chamber at another facility using the same products.
